Question [=?] basketball court in street

I live in a court in Nashville, Tn. The teenagers next door have a basketball goal that sits in the street. They play on it constantly. In the summer it gets worse. Everyday you have to maneuver around hordes of kids to get in and out of your driveway. This is a nuisance. Is there something that can be done to get them to remove the basketball goal from the street? The street is not a basketball court!

Contact your local zoning office to see if the pole violates any ordinances.

In some communities, mailboxes must be a break-away type. See if the pole needs to be classified the same.

Maybe it qualifies as a sign pole, and the maximum height a sign can be in a residential neighborhood is four feet.

You may have to think creatively, as in my two examples.

Then again, what kind of trouble might those teens get into without a hoop to play ball? It might be doing more good, than the inconvenience to you. Remember, you sometimes have to be careful what you wish for.

Do you want to be known as the person who ruined their fun?

Sad [:(] re: basketball court in street

you don't know these teenagers. at least every three months, the cops pay a visit at their house because of the trouble they cause. but thanks for the advice. it's something to think about.

Maybe sending them an anonymous letter with a clear map showing where they can get to the closest basketball court would give them a hint.

If you need a new set of tires or perhaps a new car then I suggest you park onthe street exactly where they play basketball---I'll bet you car really suffers--and if they are juvy's they won't see a day in jail even if you videotape them in the act.

Just like Bush, if you start a war, you need to be ready to hang in for the conclusion.

Feedback [*=*] Gosh, you guys take a negative view...

Call your local government and find out if there is an ordance against having the hoop in the street (in my neighborhood there is, but in some areas in my city there is not: has to do with the sidewalks, apparently). If there is, you can report it and no one will know who did.

If there is not, you could very politely ask the parents if the kids can move the hoop at least once in a while. Might not happen, but it might.

My boys left the hoop on the sidewalk for a few days and we got a letter from the city to move it, citing the appropriate law. But there was an article in the paper not too long ago about another part of the city where several homeowners are unhappy bout the number of hoops and how there is really nothing they can do.

    Same problem with hoop

This is a little late and probably doesn't add much, but here it goes: I have/had the exact same problem. Everyone's message/response is accurate. I had spoken kindly to my neighbors but to no avail. Their kids are priviliged. So I called the town, and they had to remove the hoop from the street because of an ordinance. Now the war. They "harass" me within the law (no criminal acts according to the police). For example, the kids run all over my lawn and the parents yell at me everytime I step out of my house. When I play my radio in my yard, they say they are going to call the police because I'm disturbing them. It's not a good situation. It's either live with the nuisance or create more hell. I felt that I had to do what I did because they refused any kind of compromise and started the "harassing" behavior.
