    Indiana - reduced work schedule

    My company recently instituted a 'reduced work schedule'.

    I am a "non-exempt" employee.

    Basically, I have to take 10% of my normal work hours off each month.  This equates to 2 days per month.

    During a 6 month time frame, I was told that I would be required to take off 12 days, un-paid. 

    My question: Do I qualify for unemployment benefits? 

    I'm not obligated to take the un-paid days, consecutively. Although is is an option.  Should I use them consecutively, in order to qualify for benefits?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I suggest that you address that question to the unemployment office.

    But my guess is that you would not be eligible for benefits because you haven't been fired, and I don't see it as a layoff even if you totalled it up and took it consecutively (which you can bet your employer wouldn't allow).

    The only way to know for sure is to check with the local UC office.

    Actually, my company will allow me to take them consecutively. 

    They finally told us today that our first week would be our 'one week' waiting period.  So I would get paid for the subsequent 7 days under unemployment.

    They differentiate between non-exempt and exempt employees.  However, exempt employees would not be eligible, since the company takes their 10% loss on a monthly basis, regardless of when they take their mandatory time-off.  Where as, non-exempt employees lose their pay, when they take the time off.
