    Sad [:(] Fired after getting a raise

    I was just fired yesterday after getting a raise of $3 an hour to stay while a new company was taking over. I had plans to quit on June 15th to go back to school on the other side of washington. I was told I was terminated because I didnt have the qualfications for the job I had. But I whole heartedly believe it was because I just took 30 hrs of vacation that was owed to me before my cut off date. I have applied for Unemployment, but I am afraid they will fight it because they are a nasty company to work for. What are the chances that I will be denied Unemployment when I have worked for the same place for almost 10 years? And I have a total of 50 hours of vacation coming to me. Can I tell them I want my vacation cashed out now that they terminated me?

    Whether unused vacation time must be paid out on termination depends on state law and, to the best of my knowledge, Washington state does not have a law requiring it.  So, you can ask, but they are not legally required to do so. 

    No one here can predict how Unemployment will rule on any specific case.

    The fact that you've worked there for 10 years will have no bearing on your case.  You were fired, so I'd say your chances of getting unemployment are good, but no one but the state can tell you for sure.

    Unfortunately, even the majority of friendly companies don't like employees who, after 10 years of trust, decide to move on.

    Apparently they got wind of your plans, and just decided to get rid of you.  Only UC can determine your eligibility.
