    DR, LWOP and Health ins

Hi, does anyone out there know if once the PO walks you out the door, NWA, and you file for DR and use up you leave SL and AL if you are able to stay on the role on LWOP?

I read if your on LWOP you can continue&nbsp... DR is approved ... and are able to keep up your health ins.

Once they "walk you out the Door", it will be locked. There will be no more SL, or AL, or LWOP ever again. You will be paid for your AL when you take that walk.

IAMFREE, who are you? tell me about your experience? Are you the one telling me about Cobra too. I respectful inform you, you are incorrect. If you have answer to question or even relate to it great. Please pass help and hope and not. Please if you have time read the Elm section 586 and DR on OPM site on sick leave. I am looking for anyone with knowledge and experience. If this was your experience&n... me about it maybe then I can understand where it is you are coming from, where you USPS?thanks,

Feedback [*=*] Re: DR, LWOP and Health ins

Talk to your supervisor and/or HR.  I believe you can be in a LWOP status for up to 52 weeks (one year). It's MUCH better than being taken off the federal/postal payroll totally.

In a LWOP status the agency pre pays your part the health insurance premium.  Upon approval of DR you will receive back pay at 60% of your high-3 salary from your last day in a pay status. The Health Insurance that was pre-paid will be deducted from the backpay (federal taxes and gross interium pay is also deducted, NOT STATE TAXES--you will have to pay state taxes at tax time).

I was in a LWOP status from 9/30/2007 untill 6/20/2008. My case was finalized on 9/30/2008.

HI thanks, So once your DR got approved 6/23/08 you got taken off LWOP, what happend to your health ins then between 6/20/08 to 9/30/08. I wonder is it a whim  (like you /not like you)that the let you stay on LWOP for the 365 or a regulation/right/rule while waiting DR?

I'm sorry if I gave a wrong answer to your question. Yes we all talk from personal experiences. It is/was my understanding 'Leave With Out Pay" is at the discretion of your Agency whether it is granted or not. The FMLA allows for up to 3 Months if approved. I thought they were walking you out the Door and Terminating you, letting you go?. Usually at that point everything would stop, but I assume you can get this special LWOP after removal from service. Also I see where the Agency can offer up to one year of LWOP, but again I thought you mentioned termination, not being walked out the door on unpaid leave.

As far as COBRA goes, normally you would be given an option to continue your Health benefits at full cost to you, if you sign up within the 31 day time frame. It is not a Deal, as the Government seems to pay more for less. My Blue Cross is $650 a Month for one person. My biggest problem was getting my Agency to Terminate me. It took over 8 Months to be officially let go, and almost one & a half years after stopping work before approval. And my Agency was not offering a Year of LWOP, however they were offering all the AWOL I could enjoy!

Re: DR, LWOP and Health ins

If you are talking about the following I understand what you are speaking about now. The OPM provides a similar statement once you are under consideration, or reconsideration for OPM Disability.  This does not mean that the benefits can't be interrupted during this period. Also if your application was not approved, you will be given the chance to continue your benefits, first through COBRA, & then TCC.

    586.132

Employees who have applied for disability retirement and who are unable to work while their applications are under review by OPM continue on the rolls in a leave status (either with or without pay) pending notification by OPM ofits decision on the application.
