    Preceeding Bill

I bought an apartment in British Columbia, Canada and came into possession on June 27, 2008.  Recently, I have received a bill for a toilet overflow plumbing problem which occurred on June 6, 2008. The company would like me to pay for it.

Am I liable here? Am I responsible for these damages even though they were never disclosed to me when I bought the apartment?

(Also, the amount that I am being billed is the amount remaining on the bill since the previous landlord has already paid part of it.)

    Thanks a lot.

This is not a legal opinion.

But I can't see how you'd be obligated for repairs done for the previous owner for something that happened before you bought the place.

Personally, I'd be telling the plumbing company (politely at first) that I wasn't having anything to do with it.

After that I wouldn't be so polite.
