Commercial Internet, hope this is the right spot

when I leased my building for my business, my landload had previously had cable intenet service.  Supposedly, there was a storm that tore down a wire and the cable company employee cut the wire off right at the box (idiot)

So since I moved in, this company is telling me to get this service I will have to pay 2600 and be locked into a 3yr contract with services I don't need or want, because they will have to dig a line under a major highway to get service to me.  He says they can't get the cable lines high enough above the road so the large trucks can get under.  Power lines can do it, phone lines can do it, stop lights can do it, hmmmmm

Each building to the side of me has this services and he said it is just not possible to run a wire to me b/c of all the trees and regulations.

Well one of my new clients used to install wire for this company, and she said there is no reason what so ever he couldn't run me wire from my neighbor to me.

I have never heard of a general service company wanting to charge you 2600 upfront then 300 a month for three just for you to use their service.  The salesman says he's done all he can do he can think of anything.

Should I approach this another way?  This is my only internet possiblity at my office and I need it to interact with clients.

Ready to rock to the boat in SC!

and fyi, I am not thinking of stealing anything.  If she got it wired, I would go to them and get the services I need hooked up and pay for it.  Or worst case scenerio, pay half of the guy next doors bill , lol

How about satellite dish internet service? Or DSL service through the phone company?

You can talk to the local government body that regulates the cable company in your area to see if they have rules on rates and installation for service. The FCC has some additional information on cable service that you might find useful.

There is something likely  fishy going on ?  --and you need to dig deeper and also look at your lease to see if cable or internet is somehow in the equation.

If the prior service was not paid for, sometimes folks "cut" the lines as a way to pressure new occupant to pay hidden bill!?

So get additional high speed phone lines installed?

I rent out some commercial buildings as LL --and I 've never had the precise problem you cite --but my read is that say if an old power line fails or sewer line fails or water line fails OUTSIDE the leased premises and say to repair/replace it requires meeting a newer more expensive code well thats just my tough luck as LL---

Depends in part if 'cable" is a utility in your state?

and I know some LL's who have had terrible $$  issues as to failed old underground lines  and I had to pay to remove some unsafe obsolete overhead power lines from the connection point down. .

I am too far away to get DSL, the phone company even said so and cancelled the service themselves.  I have too many trees to be able to get any kind of satelitte services.  I am pretty certain my LL would not have left an outstanding bill and if he had, the cable co guy should have told me that.  I have not be able to find any FCC regulations on it yet, but any help would so much appreciated.

And the cable guy just kept telling me b/c of the trees they can't run it from next door b/c I don't have a pole high enough.  I still think it's all bull but the cable guy became a bit of a stalker so I am trying to research all I can before I have to call him again.
