    Sad [:(] Fake Profile

My boyfriend came across an adult online personals profile Friday (10/23/09) and called me immediately after, accusing me of cheating on him! The profile is a FAKE and someone took my information from an old personals account or somewhere! I never signed up for these adult sites!

If you type my Username (Skavixen) into Google, the first link above comes up under the third listing. It is exactly my Username I always use for Internet accounts; I even have another email with it in the name. The profile description is exactly my profile: blonde hair, blue eyes, 5’ 9”, Sagittarius, from Tracy, CA, etc.  It’s too much of a coincidence!!

This same profile shows up in two websites, both registered to the same person. When I try to request a password for the account using the username (Skavixen) it says “We cannot locate your account please try again” (because its fake)

But if I request a password for an account I created Friday it says “Your account details have been sent to your email address” and it does get sent!

This person/profile is a paying member, I would never pay for that!
Please help me!! My boyfriend has since then broke up with me and kicked me out of his home. We have been together for almost four years and I have NEVER cheated on him. I love him very much and I hate to have him thinking I would do something like this!

Isn’t there anything I can do? Please help me

    Thank you for your time.

Have you reported the situation to the website owner?

    Re: Fake Profile

Appears to be someone you know who wants to cause trouble...any ideas?

I'd contact a lawyer to write a letter to the website if they won't respond to you...it's always possible for an expert to determine where the info originated from.  But just getting them to stop may be enough...and the email address put on "your" so-called account.

    Re: Fake Profile

Just to add, since then I have submitted a request on their online form (no response). I tried emailing the two emails that are listed for the registrant of the websites through whois lookup. Both emails came back as undeliverable.

My guess is that the owner of the website has made this fake profile for profit to get people to join. Otherwise, who would pay for a fake profile? They are a Silver Member which is a paying member.

I have only gotten one lawyer to respond to me and he wants a high retainer to write a letter. My problem is I think the person is out of the country.

I have to prove to my boyfriend that this profile is not mine! I don't know how and it breaks my heart :(

I have to disagree; it's way too close to your own info.

I'd continue to call around for lawyers; it shouldn't cost much for a cease-and-desist letter.

And show bf your contributions to this site; surely you wouldn't go to all this trouble if it were true.

    Re: Fake Profile

I don't know if anyone is still reading this but I have not been able to find someone who will write a letter for a minimal price (is $500 not too much?)

My whole problem is I have to prove the profile is not mine. If the profile gets removed, it does not prove that it was not mine.

Anyone have any ideas how to prove it is not mine? (I'm going insane trying to figure it out!)

Did a lawer tell you that you had to prove it wasn't you?

I'd write a letter myself advising them of my intent to hire an attorney and see if that helps first.

Most lawyers charge between $200 - $400 an hour.

    Re: Fake Profile

No, I have to prove to my boyfriend that the account isn't mine.

In the long run I need to have this profile removed just for reputation sake.

My main concern right now is that my boyfriend thinks it is my profile. I have to prove to him that it is not mine. I have no idea how to do that, how do you prove something is NOT yours! I know its not mine, I wouldn't sign up for a swingers or adult site which it is on and I certainly wouldn't PAY for an online account(the profile is a paying member).

I sent a message through the website online customer service form and told my intention to hire a lawyer if no response or action was taken but again no response.

I'm afraid the registrar is in the UK also.....hmm......Can they get a court order to get an Ip address of the account creation in another country?

    Thanks for all ur comments

    Re: Fake Profile

There really is not much you can do if he refuses to believe you. A court in this country has no authority over a business in another country.

    Re: Fake Profile

It's not possible to prove a negative.  If bf won't believe you after being together for four years, he has bigger problems than you can solve.

I agree with DPH - what happens the next time something comes up - how are you going to prove to your bf that it's not true then?
