Starting a buisness - same as girlfriends employers

I would like to start an e-buisness that will basically sell the same product and services that my girlfriends employer does. Her mother works there and so does her best friend. I have also done some computer work for them off the books.

I could easily get insider information if needed which raises some red flags in my mind. I do not want to get into a legal battle over this.

I need to know how to avoid any legal complications that could arise. What legal complications could arise and how to avoid them/prevent them.

I don't see any legal problems as long as you don't steal any trade secrets.

However, even if you don't steal any trade secrets, there will be the perception that you did and all three of those people could get fired.

And, of course, since anybody can sue anybody for anything, you could get sued and spend a lot of money on lawyers even if you win.
