    Green Card and Name Change

    Hi,

I'm Green Card holder through Marriage (my wife is a U.S. citizen) and my Conditional Permanent Residency status on my card starts on June 22nd 09. I want to change my full name because it's difficult to say, pronounce and spell. I actually want to shorten my first name and get a brand new lastname.

I would like to know if my Green Card Conditional Permanent Residency status entitles me to legally request a name change? To be clear, since I'm not a U.S. Citizen but a Permanent Resident can I request OR am I allowed to legally change my name?

A little bit of history to help understand. I've been living in NYC for 7 years, 3+ years in brooklyn and 4+ years in Manhattan. I'm fully aware of the legal process involved as clearly explained on this website and I'm aware that once I get a positive court order I would also need to update my Green Card and go all over again with the USCIS appointment etc.

I appreciate any input, experience or advice on my question above.

    Thank you.

as soon as you file your n-400, part 1, d, you have the option, free, to legally change your name.

    http://www.uscis.gov/f...

(the system does not allow the full link..) just google n-400
