    A "no fault" divorce is a divorce granted based solely on the request of one or both parties.  This is contrasted with a divorce granted because of something that is the "fault" of one party or the other (e.g., adultery, abandonment, or physical or mental cruelty).  Almost all states now have some sort of "no fault" divorce option, and a great many states no longer have fault-based divorces.

    No-fault divorce allows a couple to divorce without blame or fault.
