    Inquest testimony for divorce

I just got a letter from my lawyer saying that I will have to appear for an inquest testimony for my divorce. Can you tell me what that means and why is this necessary?
    thanks!

An inquest is a hearing in which only one side testifies or submits evidence. It is most common in NY on the issue of grounds, the testimony being the proof submitted to the court required under statute so that a divorce may be granted.

Check with your lawyer as there are always exceptions to general rules.

What happens if the defendant appears? He has been made away of the inquest.
