    Ellipses

They are REALLY taking over some posts.

    Re: Ellipses

The ellipses in a link are OK. It appears to just be a way of shortening a url. Used to be when I posted a link to Florida statutes, for example, the link could fill up 5 lines. Now the links don't take up much space and they are still live. That's a good thing.

The bad thing is when the ellipses hijack a word or phrase in the message. Sometimes it can be fixed by editing the message and moving the word around. But mostly it can't.

The best way to get around this is to make text within the post "hot."

To do this, highlight the text then click the "link" button tothe right of the numeric list button. This way you're describing the link as well.

You can always right-click on the link and "copy link," too.

    Re: Ellipses

Are we discussing the same thing?

My problem involves text, not links.

In my text block one phrase came out "husband/boyfriend/what ...".  It should have ended as "whatever." "But-but-but-I-was-onl ... theory" replaced the "only-joking" clause with ellipses.

"Pers ... texting on company time suffices" should have printed as -- I don't remember what "Pers" are the first four letters to. PERSONAL! That'll work! I DO know that it wasn't intended as Pers + ellipses.

And the grand-daddy of them all:  "You opened-mouth-inserted-... Especially to a poster who's being dumped on sexual harassment charges, I don't like ellipses suggesting she fill in the blank.

Excluding the "Pers" thing, I noticed that continued use of forward slashes or hyphens on the above may have triggered the ellipses. Or is that just coincidental?

    Right.

It's the text that's the problem.

I was just pointing out that links WEREN'T the problem.

    Kristin, another example:

"The advantage is that you rec... reimbursement for gas mileage by use of the car."

Basically to avoid ellipses we have to proof/edit the post and MAYBE the correction will take?

    Re: Ellipses

It's a character limit that appears to be creating this. Words strung together with hyphens that are 25 characters or more like "You opened-mouth-inserted-" seem to be creating this.

    I'll check.

THAT'S what I suspected in the majority of instances.

I'll avoid them in the future. Thanks!

Here's another one that just happened to me:

It's not a fight I want to spend my money and ef... on.

    "ef" should have been "efforts".

There's no hyphens and no slashes.

    Ok [+0+] Re: Ellipses

"Sorry I misunderstood the question, guys!"

My fault, Kristin. I only posted links. I should have better specified that the problem was within those links and what it entailed.

    I don't remember.

But if I come across it or it happens again, I'll give you a link to the post.

    Here's another. Just happened.

    http://community.lawye...

Attempting to collect a debt is never considered harass... (except by people who owe and don't pay), it's called dunning.

"harass..." is supposed to be "harassment".
