    VIRGINIA EMPLOYMENT LAW

    I WORK FOR A CLEANIMG CONTRACTOR. WHICH HAS

    SEVERAL SITES. CAN THE CLEINT TAKE AWAY MY

    FIRST AMMENDMENT RIGHT OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH

    WHILE ON THE JOB. STATING THAT THIS INTERFERES

    WITH MY JOB PERFORMANCE? I GENERALLY WORK

    WHEN NO ONE ELSE IS THERE. I AM  61 YEARS OLD

    AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN A PEOPLE PERSON. BEEN

    ON THIS SITE GOING ON TWO YEARS WITH ONLY FIVE

    COMPLAINTS. MAYBE THREE DAYS A WEEK THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES

    Absolutely, 100%, Yes.

    The first amendment only applies to the government restricting your freedom of speech.

    If your employer or the client tells you "Work, don't talk", you work and you don't talk.

    • The right of the people 
    • to keep and bear arms,
    • shall not be infringed.

    Probably.

    The First Amendment says the government cannot restrict your speech. Your employer often can.

    Absolutely.  They're paying you to work, not talk and apparently the amount of talking is a problem.
