    Deadbolt locks

Are deadbolts required on rental properties in North Carolina?  Or, as the tenant am I liable to pay for the installation of one?

There is a provision in the NC landlord tenant statutes that the landlord install deadbolt locks if the tenant is a victim of domestic violence.

    See:

I'll leave it up to you to read the rest of the statute and see if there is any other requirement:

If it isn't, you'll have to install it and pay for it yourself.

Think about this, though, if you put another hole in the door, you'll be paying for the door on move out. So make sure you get WRITTEN permission from the landlord and you'll have to provide him with a set of keys.
