    auto accident

My boyfriend, son, and I were in a car accident in june 2009 we were at a 4 stop and it was our turn to go we were brod sided by a guy who went around traffic and ran the stop sign. We were going south and the guy hit us going west.  My boyfriend didn't want to see a doctor.  I was in pain so I went and am now going to therapy.  My son was ok and checked by his doctor.  I have a lawyer and they can't do anything till I'm cleared with the doctors.  Does anyone know about how much I would get or what I should fight for in my case.  I am also sueing for my son.  What should I expect for a settlement for the both of us.

Between a dollar and a gazillion dollars.

Only your lawyer can put an amount on your claim once everybody has recovered and all of the damages are totalled up.

I don't know where you get your information from, but it's completely WRONG.

Lawyers charge between 33-1/3% and 40% generally and certainly, they reveal this upfront to any potential client

No such thing that dealing with an insurance company will bring a client more money than if he or she consulted an attorney (providing the injuries are significant).  Playing the waiting game from an insurance company can also mean the statutes can expire and insurance companies know this and are willing to drag it out.

Insurers know, and tell their adjusters during training, that in the most common personal injury claims, "represented claims when an injured person uses an attorney] settle for 2-3 times more than unrepresented claims [when a person deals directly with the insurer--even after deducating attorney fees."

REF:Allstate Unrepresented Adjuster Training Manual, July 1995.

Unless you know what  you are talking about, you should not post misleading information.

Anyone who has potentially serious injuries which require long-term treatments should consult an attornejy.

    The Insurance Research Council ,..

    More

in a study entitled "Paying for Auto Injuries,"  provides statistics that average atotal payments received on claims where there is an attorney are 4.8 times as great as on a claim where there is no attorney.

This same study shows that individuals who have an attorney receive after payment of attorney fees, 3.28 times more than those who settle without an attorney.

Once again, the statistics from the insurance industry which I cited back me up.  I.e., especially if the injuries are significant--as I stated.

If injuries are 'minor' with full recovery anticipated,  it may be possible to deal with the insurance company.  However, the OP has ongoing treatments without final evaluation.  As I stated, if the injuries are significant, require long term treatment and significant medical bills,  her best bet is to consult an attorney.  The extent of injury is not known at this time, according to the poster--she is still under doctor's care.
