Panel members are appointed to a three-year term, and are selected based upon their specialized knowledge and demonstrated contribution to their field.

The 2010 panel nominees were selected using the SHRM Volunteer Opportunities Center, a comprehensive recruitment and selection process that assisted in the identification of panel members and allowed SHRM to broadly announce panel positions; and through referrals of both of both staff and current volunteers.  Those nominated were considered by a Panel Selection Committee composed of volunteer leaders and staff, who, in turn, submitted slates for each panel to the Governance Committee of the SHRM Board for review and approval.
